If you want to ease into “Cowboy Life” then the Introduction to Horses is a good way to experience riding in a controlled environment at your own pace.

Settle into your cabin and then wander over to meet our horses. On the way, pick an apple from one of our trees – the horses’ love apples! After that, think about where you might like to go for dinner.

There are several casual restaurants in Strathmore or you can pick up a few things at one of the local grocery stores and test your culinary skills. Your cabin is equipped with everything you need to prepare a meal including a BBQ.

The next day, sleep late and wake-up to fresh coffee and one of Terri’s delicious two-course breakfasts. You can enjoy your breakfast in your cabin or on your private deck. After breakfast prepare to “Cowboy Up!”

In this two-hour session you will be introduced to riding and learn to groom and saddle your horse. You will be shown how to mount your horse, move your horse about, and stop your horse to dismount. The lesson will be conducted in an outdoor arena, which provides a safe place in which to learn to ride.

Following your ride, you can head into Strathmore for dinner or throw a couple of steaks on the BBQ and enjoy them on the deck of your cabin as you watch the sun set over the lake. After dinner take a walk along the canal, soak in the hot tub or enjoy a campfire under the stars.

After a wonderful night sleep, enjoy your morning coffee on the deck while we prepare your breakfast. You will be totally relaxed by the time you are ready to head back home.

Looking for a little more than a quiet weekend in the country? Sign up for our Equestrian Adventure Package. After a wonderful night sleep in your cozy cabin, wake-up to fresh coffee and a delicious two-course breakfast served in your cabin or on your private deck.

After breakfast, slip into your boots, grab your cowboy hat and head out for a day of riding in the majestic Rocky Mountains. The trip to the base camp will take one and half hours and the scenery is breathtaking so bring your camera.

When you arrive at the base camp our guides will help you saddle your horse and then you’ll ride, with our guides, through Kananaskis Country. A light lunch will be served when you return to the base camp. After lunch you can ride again or go for a hike. We’ll head back to the Rocking R in time for you to enjoy a casual dinner in Strathmore. After dinner, gather round the campfire, roast marshmallows and marvel at the brilliance of a million stars or relax in the hot tub before you retire to your cabin.

The next morning, sleep late and then enjoy a two-course breakfast before you depart from the Rocking R Guest Ranch.

Come and see what the Wild West has to offer! You will experience western culinary delights and some of the best scenery in North America. We only offer this package three times in a season so sign up early! This package is offered in June, August and September and requires a minimum of 4 people. Watch the web-site for upcoming dates.

You will arrive at the Ranch on Thursday evening. Settle into your accommodations and plan to turn in early because breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m. so we can load up and head for the hills! The trip to the base camp will take one and half hours and the scenery is breathtaking so bring your camera.

Each day our guides will help you saddle your horses and then you’ll ride, with our guides, through Kananaskis Country. A light lunch will be served when you return to the base camp. After lunch you can ride again, go for a hike or just relax in the camp. Each evening you will be treated to an authentic Western Style BBQ.

On Sunday afternoon we will head back to the Ranch where you can relax in the hot tub before heading into Strathmore for a casual dinner. After two nights in a tent you’ll enjoy your comfortable bed in the cabin. Sleep well and in the morning enjoy a delicious breakfast before you head for home.
